A New Type of Temporary Tattoo Magically Lasts For Two Whole Weeks

Temporary tattoos are a fun because the regret usually only lasts a couple of days. But a pair of brothers from Toronto have created a new kind of temporary tattoo that’s just as easy to apply, but actually last a full two weeks through showers, swims, and daily life.

The Inkbox tattoos are applied just like the temporary designs you’ll find on sites like Tattly. You peel off a protective backing, press it onto a clean area of your skin, dampen it with an included wet towelette for 10 minutes, and then peel it all away. Just don’t be alarmed when there’s nothing on your skin afterwards.

That’s because the Inkbox tattoos, made from 100 percent organic fruit (the actual recipe is a closely guarded secret) don’t sit on top of your skin like a traditional temporary tattoo. Instead, the ‘ink’ actually stains the epidermis, the top most layer of your skin, by turning organic compounds in the tissue black after 12 hours. That’s why your skin actually appears blank immediately after application—but also why these temporary tattoos are able to stick around for about two weeks.

The Inkbox’s staying power does mean you’re limited to monochromatic designs and hard-edged shapes. There’s no color, at least not yet, and no shading either. The visibility of the temporary tattoos will vary depending on your skin color, and if you want to remove one, or at least expedite the fading process, it can only be done by exfoliating your skin twice a day. The brothers, Tyler and Braden Handley, have also chosen to go the Kickstarter route with their new creation, attempting to raise $20,000 for an initial production run.

The good news is that they’ve already shattered that funding goal, and with a donation of just $18 you can pre-order one of the designs with a delivery expected as soon as October later this year. Eventually the brothers will allow anyone to submit custom designs as well so you can finally tattoo your partner’s name across your chest, without having to commit to anything long-term—including the relationship.

Man Tattoos Image Of Hearing Aid On His Head To Support 6-Year-Old Daughter

We’ve found the most incredible candidate for Father of the Year! A New Zealand dad of a hearing impaired little girl got a tattoo of a Cochlear implant on his head to match his daughter’s two hearing devices. So sweet — see the pic.

Charlotte Campbell, 6, is deaf in her left ear and got her first Cochlear implant two years ago. But she also has a condition that limits her brain’s ability to process sound in her right ear. As a result, she got a second implant put in, so that’s when her dad Alistair decided he’d show his little girl that she’s no different from anyone else. He got a tattoo of a Cochlear implant above his left ear to help Charlotte feel more normal.

Alistair has no other tattoos, but he had his head shaved for the precious inking. “Hey my hair can grow back,”  he told the New Zealand Herald. The paper says that when Charlotte saw her dad’s tattoo, she “giggled, touched it and said it was cool.”

The loving dad shaved his head to get the tattoo and says that while he’ll grow his hair back, he’ll gladly shave it again if his little darling wants to see it. Charlotte’s mom, Anita, says she wasn’t surprised when her daughter was diagnosed with hearing issues as their eight-year-old son also wears hearing devices.

The story has blown up on social media with other parents sharing stories of how they’ve gotten tattoos to help their children with medical conditions feel more normal. One Facebook user named Yasmine said, “My son has a heart condition which has required 3 open heart surgeries so my husband got my sons scar tattooed on his chest so he didn’t feel like he was the only one. My son loves it…good on you dad! Your little girl would love it.”

Another user named Kristen said, “I have a friend that has done the same thing for her daughter. I thought it was amazing.” Thousands of others praised Alistair for being and “awesome dad” and what a “beautiful example of love” his tattoo is for his little girl.

Temporary tattoos become high-fashion accessories for grownups

If you're wondering about that tie-dye butterfly your most stylish friend suddenly has inked on her shoulder, don't worry — it's probably fake.

That's right, temporary tattoos are all the rage among the fashion set, even showing up on the red carpet, usually reserved for the most elite (and expensive) designers. Model and actress Cara Delevingne wore a fake tattoo of red flowers winding up her arms and chest, paired with a sleek black jumpsuit, at this year's Met Gala in New York.

Even Beyoncé is getting in on the action, launching her own collection of temporary ink with Flash Tattoos.

"It's not just about wearing a tattoo, it's about wearing a work of art on your body," said Yng-Ru Chen of Tattly, one of the most popular temporary tattoo brands out right now.

The Brooklyn-based Tattly sets itself apart by working with renowned artists to commission one-of-a-kind designs.

"We're kind of like a gallery for them," Chen said. "We don't take submissions. It's a carefully edited and curated process. We take a lot of time and consideration into whose work we admire as an artist, and who we think will translate well to the skin."

The company is making a name for itself in the event space, working with brands like SoulCycle and Lululemon, and institutions including the Brooklyn Museum and MoMA PS1, to make customized tattoos for parties. Tattly also makes personalized tattoos for weddings, Chen added.

The New York Times recently highlighted the trend and Tattly's place in the market, but many brands are starting to offer temporary tattoos that scream high-fashion — not kids' birthday party.

Two Canadian brothers are raising funds for a tattoo that lasts a full two weeks, called Inkbox, a way to see if you want to commit to the real thing. And temporary tattoos are also showing up on the runway, having been used in shows by Chanel, Victoria's Secret, Tommy Hilfiger and more.

Chen suggests it's temporary tattoos' affordability that makes them an attractive accessory.

"Ours are two for $5, most of them," she said. "Having that price point allows people flexibility to change it up every once in a while. Or every day if they want to. It's fun. It's a way of expressing themselves without having to buy a brand-new outfit or a new pair of shoes."
